Every Device We Buy
Keeps e-Waste Out of Landfill

Electronic waste is the fastest-growing waste stream in the world. South Africa generates over 360,000 tonnes of e-waste per year. We're doing something about it.

How SellYourDevice Makes a Difference

recycling

Device Refurbishment

Devices in good condition are refurbished and resold through our partner network, extending the product life by 3–5 years and displacing the need to manufacture new devices.

Responsible Recycling

Devices that can't be refurbished are sent to SABS-certified e-waste recyclers in South Africa. Hazardous materials like lithium, lead, and mercury are extracted safely — never landfilled.

Circular Economy

By consolidating devices through one platform, we create scale for responsible recycling and refurbishment — reducing per-device transport emissions compared to individual disposal.

Our South African Commitment

South Africa faces a growing e-waste crisis, with informal recycling (often toxic and exploitative) dominating the sector. SellYourDevice is committed to building a formal, safe, and fairly-priced alternative — one that benefits sellers, the environment, and the communities around our recycling partners.

We partner exclusively with South African-based recyclers who comply with the National Environmental Management: Waste Act (NEMWA) and hold valid waste management licences.

What Your Sale Does

check_circle

Prevents toxic leaching

Lithium batteries discarded in landfill leach acids and heavy metals into groundwater. Every device you sell with us avoids this.

check_circle

Reduces mining demand

Recovering gold, cobalt, and rare earth metals from old phones reduces demand for environmentally destructive mining.

Supports affordable tech access

Refurbished devices re-enter the market at lower prices, making smartphones and laptops accessible to more South Africans.

Saves CO₂

Manufacturing a single new smartphone produces approximately 70kg of CO₂. Refurbishing an existing one produces a fraction of that.
